Purdie Baumann of Birdcage Beanie at Artists & Fleas in Williamsburg!
Purdie Baumann turns a classic winter beanie into a practical yet glamorous accessory with just a few stitches.
A former Rockette at Radio City Music Hall, Purdie had the idea of adding a birdcage style tulle veil to a knit cap to help her warm up in style. Accustomed to stitching her ballet slippers, she applied the same sewing technique to stitch the tulle to a familiar cap. “I made three,” she told me recently, “and my dancer friends bought them right off my head.”
And that’s how she launched her company, Birdcage Beanies! Meet Purdie weekends at Artists & Fleas in Brooklyn, and try on beanies in a lovely variety of colors and tulles.
