UR Bath & Body Handmade Soaps and Scrubs

Gifts with stories are the best. I was browsing through the new Garment District Holiday Market, and I was drawn into a particular handmade soap shop first because it smelled so good. And then there was the glitter on top of the lovely bars of soap. But the thing that I found most compelling was the story behind U.R. Bath & Body.

Founder Tracy Gunn was a single mother raising two sons when she found herself down to her last $100 in the entire world. She gathered her wits and her entrepreneurial spirit and spent a third of her remaining funds on supplies to make soap. Within a year, her soaps were in 1,000 stores across the country. And Tracy didn’t stop there.

Tracy’s company supports homeless shelters across the country and employs homeless women, mostly mothers, and formerly incarcerated people in the production of her soaps and body scrubs. The photo above is features Tracy holding the hand of one such woman who lives in a shelter and works in the U.R. Bath & Body holiday shop. She is a victim of abuse and battery. I can’t say anything else about her, except that she is absolutely lovely and deserves a safe and fulfilling life just like everyone else.

Give the gift of hope this season with the wonderful soaps from U.R. Bath & Body in the Garment District Holiday Market on Broadway between 39th and 41st Streets, open daily till December 24, 2015.
