Saeed Pourkay serves up Persian cuisine at Union Square

There’s nothing like a cup of hot ash reshteh to warm your tummy as you stroll through the Union Square Holiday Market.

Saeed Pourkay opened up his first Persian food stand, A Taste of Persia NYC, in the holiday market two years ago. He is back this year with delicious and healthy savory snacks.

Ash reshteh is a rich, delicious soup of noodles, beans and many different fresh vegetables, with several crunchy toppings, including fried garlic and mint. It’ll fill you up for more shopping!

Mr. Pourkay’s food was recently written up lovingly in the New York Times’ Hungry in the City column. Read even more about him in a piece written after his debut by one of my favorite cook book authors, Louisa Shafia.

Try A Taste of Persia NYC in the holiday market every day through December 24 (Booth E13). Mr. Pourkay also has a window-front counter inside Pizza Paradise at 12 West 18th Street between 5th and 6th Avenues.
