Looks like a fantastic weekend in New York City! The daffodils and jonquils are brilliant, and brave little crocuses have popped up for early spring. The tulips can’t be far behind! I can only conclude one thing: spring has arrived.
And that means a season full of spring markets! Below is a list of market openings this weekend, as well as other events coming up this month and next.
Saturday and Sunday, April 6 & 7, 2013
Brooklyn Flea: The Flea opens its outdoor season this weekend! Saturdays will be in the usual spot in Fort Greene. Sundays are in a new Williamsburg location in the East River State Park. 10AM – 5PM, Saturdays, 176 Lafayette Ave. between Clermont + Vanderbilt Ave.; Sundays, East River State Park at North 7th, Brooklyn
Smorgasburg: Smorgasburg is back too! The Brooklyn Flea’s wonderful food market is open Saturdays, also in East River State Park, and Sundays in its beautiful location in DUMBO. Get there early – a lot of hungry people have been waiting a long time for Opening Weekend to arrive! 11AM – 6PM, Saturdays, East River State Park at North 7th St., Williamsburg; Sundays in the Tobacco Warehouse, 30 Water St., DUMBO, Brooklyn
SoHa Square Market Place: There’s a new market in South Harlem (SoHa)! Artisan and flea vendors will set up shop in this cozy square, along with southern and island cuisine! 10AM – 6PM, 117th and Frederick Douglass Blvd., Manhattan
Seasonal Greenmarkets: As you probably noticed, only a few of the GrowNYC greenmarkets are open year-round. The rest are seasonal, and they are starting to open throughout the burroughs this month and next. Keep an eye on the GrowNYC schedule for farmers markets near you! www.GrowNYC.org
Spring Fair Made in NYC: Here’s another opportunity to buy local and handmade! This market in Soho, sponsored by Main St. Industries, includes a nice mix of jewelry, accessories and food. The list of wonderful chocolate vendors struck me, as well as the diversity of the products! Saturday 12PM – 7PM, Sunday 12PM – 5PM, 154 Grand St. at Lafayette, Manhattan
Sunday, April 7, 2013
Down to Earth Market in McGolrick Park: Down To Earth Markets runs several important farmers markets in the city. The market McGolrick Park opens on Sunday with a wonderful range of fresh and local edibles — produce, baked goods, cured meats and more! 11AM – 4PM, Russell St. off Nassau Ave., sidewalk outside park, Brooklyn
