Weekend Market Picks October 13 & 14, 2012 + Hot Peppers from Oak Grove Plantation

Oak Grove Plantation is an historic farm dating back to the 1700’s in Hunterdon County, NJ. Ted and Susan Blew have owned the farm since 1977, and they turned it into a 160 acre organic farm. They have big plans for the farm, including adding more land, establishing an equine center and opening the farm to the public for important events like pumpkin picking.

Check out Oak Grove Plantation on Wednesdays and Saturdays at the Union Square Greenmarket!

Now that the fall weather has definitely arrived, here are my Weekend Market Picks!

Saturday, October 12, 2012

Gowanus Girls Indie Design and Food Market: This is a brand new market featuring almost 40 talented local women designers. This market runs for two weekends this month, and a portion of the proceeds go towards economic development initiatives along the Gowanus canal. You will find crafts, food, activities for kids and sangria! I’m so excited to go check it out! Noon – Sundown, Gowanus Grove, 400 Carroll Street, between Bond and Nevins, right on the Canal, Brooklyn

P.S. 175 Flea Market: P.S. 175 is holding its second of three flea markets in their schoolyard to raise funds for educational activities. Check it out and support our students! 9AM – 4PM, 135th St. between 7th & Lennox, Manhattan

Saturday & Sunday, October 12 & 13, 2012

Autumn Crafts at Lincoln Center: This fine craft show is open for its second weekend, in the midst of Lincoln Center for Performing Arts. Some of my favorite craftspeople are there, including Paz Sintes fiber jewelry and Kevin DesPlanques with his incredible wooden rocking chairs,  Saturday 11AM – 8:30PM, Sunday 10AM – 6:30 PM, 64th St. at Columbus Ave., Manhattan

Fall Crafts on Columbus: This is the second weekend for Fall Crafts on Columbus too! Some of my favorite artisans are here too, including Shaya NYC Jewelry, Tesage handbags, C. Joseph Clothiers, and many more.  Note that the 77th St. Greenmarket will be moving in with the Greenflea in the schoolyard across the street while Crafts on Columbus is under way. 10AM – 5:30PM, Columbus Ave. from 77th to 81st St., Rain or Shine, Manhattan

Gowanus Open Studios: More great happenings in Gowanus this weekend, so if you’ve never ventured there, ’tis the time. Gowanus Open Studios is a two-day event where you can visit and meet some very fine artists in their own habitats, er, studios. Noon – 6PM, See Map for details, Brooklyn

Sunday, October 13, 2012

Greenflea & 77th Street Greenmarket: While Crafts on Columbus is going on, the lovely 77th Street Greenmarket is bunking with the Greeflea diagonally across the street from its usual spot. In essence, you can view some of the finest examples of New York’s artisan and craft markets, flea and antiques markets and farmers markets essentially all within one block of each other. Don’t miss this opportunity! 8AM – 5PM, Columbus Avenue between 78th & 81st Streets, Manhattan
